Grooming Tools

Metal Comb

This simple comb is our favorite for doodle coats. We “practice” brushing our puppies while they are young, even though their coats don’t necessarily need it that early.  This way, they are used to regular brushing when they start to need it on a routine basis.

Matting Tool

Doodles are prone to matting, and this little tool has saved many coats for us!  Once a mat gets started, it is important to catch it early, or it can really grow quickly.  This tool helps to snip out mats, and is great to keep in close reach. Be careful – it does have a blade on it!

BioSilk For Dogs

We love these products for caring for doodle coats! Their Shine Spray is great to use before brushing.

Shampoo/Conditioner

Cowboy Magic

We use this shampoo/conditioner/and detangle and shine product before they come home.  We love the Detangler and Shine, because it makes their coats silky and helps grass and other things not to stick to their coats when they come in from the yard.

Crate

If you are planning to crate train, we like the wire crates with a divider that allows for growth.  While the puppy is small, we use the divider in order to have enough space for the puppy to comfortably turn around, lay down, etc., but not so large that they can make a “bathroom area” in one corner.

Crate Sizes:

Petites = 24"

Minis = 30" or 36"

Mediums = 36" or 42"

Leash

Really any regular leash is just fine.  The one thing that we recommend is staying away from retractable leashes.  They allow the dog to walk you instead of you walking them.  You should be the leader.

Collars

There are many great options for collars to choose from! What size? If you are getting a mini, your baby will likely need an extra small when they come home. If you are getting a medium/small standard, it depends on the puppy. Some will need the extra small, while others will be in a small.

Playtime

Nylabone

Puppies need to chew, and we like to have lots of chewing temptations on hand to give them as an alternative to chewing the things they shouldn’t…like fingers, blankets, etc.  These little bones are flavored, and seem to be a favorite for our little Doodlebugs!

We get questions all of the time about what products we love for our own Doodlebug babies, so we have compiled a list with links for some of our favorites! Just click on the picture for the link to the product.
